The holidays are normally a time to be close to family and friends, to share in good cheer, and to reflect on the year that was. Suffice to say, 2020 was anything but normal. While we have maintained our tempo of remote monthly meetings and alternating MOC & Tell gatherings, ConnLUG is rounding out the year glad to be done with 2020 and looking forward to 2021 optimistically.
Most summers in ConnLUG are full of picnics, pool parties, and LEGO everywhere! This summer was a little different...
Doing our best to survive the 2020 pandemic, ConnLUG members new and old continued building remotely and sharing their passion for LEGO with each other online during the month of May. Despite practicing social distancing, we have new members continuing to pour in and connect with us on our Discord Server. We welcome LEGO enthusiasts to join us as we find new ways to enjoy our LEGO community online.
ConnLUG members met virtually for the April 2020 Monthly Meeting in Microsoft Teams. We reviewed the new LUG Buddy System for brand new ConnLUG members, discussed ideas for our Quarterly Build Challenges (QBC), had a classic throwback set review, and reviewed topics from our now weekly MOC-and-Tell build challenges and tutorial streams on our YouTube channel. ConnLUG is still finding ways to connect, have fun, and express LEGO creativity during these trying times.
On Saturday, March 21, 2020 ConnLUG Members met in a remote Teams meeting online to share their quarterly build challenges, MOC & Tells, connect with friends, and catch up on all things LEGO. Weekly Mini Challenges In an effort to stay connected and keep spirits up, the LUG assembled new ideas for miniature build challenges & weekly remote meet-ups in between their monthly meetings. Their list became a series of challenges over the coming weeks that they can share with each other every Saturday for an hour online or share photos of their builds throughout the week. The challenge limits the size to creating MOCs small enough to fit on…
ConnLUG members gathered in Hartford on February 15th, 2020 at the CityPlace Plaza, toting in bins of LEGO parts and piles of MOCs to share their creativity and collaboration as they plan out major events for the coming year. Along with the monthly draft set, minifig and parts swap, we reviewed the Technic Land Rover Defender Set. Members shared their MOCs (my own creation) during the monthly MOC & Tell segment which featured a range of creations from Bilbo’s Showdown with Smog to The Drunken Clam from Family Guy to escapades in Space Atlantis and so much more! Quarterly Build Challenge! Gearing up for March brings in the first build…
New Year, New Site, New ConnLUG Hey AFOLs and TFOLs of ConnLUG! Happy 2020! Here we are in a new decade, the future is now! We hope that you've all had a nice holiday and are looking forward to all of the fun and opportunities that await us in this new year.
ConnLUG is doing more than just monthly meetings now. While it is great to get together with awesome like-minded AFOLs and TFOLs for set drafts, build challenges, and set reviews, and we definitely enjoy our monthly meet ups and the fun that they bring, we felt that we could do more as a LUG.
Members of ConnLUG joined Corey Schmidek of E.Y.E.S. for a special Monthly Meeting build challenge event - The Battle Beam Build and Bash. Everyone was excited to participate in this unique event and we were thrilled to have Corey join us for this exhibition of LEGO robotics, creativity, and of course battle bots! Veteran members of ConnLUG, new members, and even some guests participated in this mechanized MOC experience.
It was a scorcher for the ConnLUG July 2019 Meeting. On the hottest day of the year, members of ConnLUG came out to enjoy some fun in the sun at the July Cookout - Pool Party. While we crowded indoors next to the A/C, and took advantage of the relief that a pool brings, Chef Brian was braving the heat to bring our members the best burgers, dogs, and veggies around.
